It's about time that Malta won the Eurovision Song Contest... it seems that just about everybody in Malta has had a go at Eurovision, apart from the very lovely Olivia Lewis. The poor love has come second in the Maltese Song for Europe about a gazillion times... but at last it's her go this year... Is she going to be heading back victorious to Valetta Airport on an Air Malta flight on May 13th?
Schlagerboys: Hello Olivia! Welcome to Schlagerblog!
Olivia Lewis: Hello boys!
SBs: "Vertigo" is fab. Was the song written for you or did you choose it?
OL: Yes, "Vertigo" was written just for me by Philip and Gerard. In that respect I am very lucky to be working with the best composing duo in Malta.
SBs: You had a poll on your website to see which frock you should wear at the Maltese Song for Europe. We really wanted to you to wear the red one!OL: The dress which I wore for the finals was voted upon by the Maltese public. To be honest it was an extremely close result but in the end the red one was not chosen.
SBs: Are you saving it for Helsinki?
OL: I will be wearing the red dress for various occasions but not for the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki (I hope you will forgive me that!).
SBs: How disappointing.... but we will forgive you...
OL: The dress which I will wear in Helsinki is still under wraps at the moment with Gerard and Shasha throwing ideas at each other in the making of the final product.
SBs: Well tell them to ask us as we don't mind doing a bit of "styling och consulting"... Back to the song then... We love the way that "Vertigo" builds. And it’s very dramatic. Are you going to have a dramatic performance full of swishing cloaks and spinning?
OL: The performance on stage will be concluded in the coming days. Until then we are keeping it a secret.
SBs: How very mysterious... The key change is a great moment. Do you think a key change is important in a song?
OL: A song without a key change more often than not does not reach it’s true climax. I enjoy Vertigo’s key change a lot as it sends an adrenaline rush through my whole body. And the people enjoy it as well.... but maybe nobody appreciates it as much as you do! :)
SBs: You really are a girl after our own hearts... you shall be an honorary Maltese Schlagergirl... You've got a great, big gong on stage with you... Do you think there should be more gongs in Eurovision?
OL: One gong is just enough. They are so heavy!
SBs: Well, you really should get someone else to carry it... it comes to something when a girl has to carry her own gongs... We’re loving your video – is that your house you’re running around? You’ve got a big garden!
OL: Unfortunately that's not my house... That is an abandoned warehouse built by the Knights of St. John in the 1700s.SBs: Oooh! Get her!
OL: I haven’t got a garden as big as that ... but I have got an amazing dog called Milly. She’s an English Cocker Spaniel and is the most loving creature I’ve ever met!
SBs: Aaah! That's sweet... we like dogs too... So Olivia, When exactly was the last time you became indigo?
OL: Hehe…next question!
SBs: Your Eurovision entry has been a long time coming. Of all the times you entered, which was the song you were most annoyed to be beaten by (we’re thinking 2003?)
OL: DEJA VU!!!!! I strongly believed in that song. However everything turned out for the better as I really prefer VERTIGO!
SBs: Do you live near Chiara? Does she pop round for tea sometimes?
OL: All Maltese live nearby. The island is so small. She wouldn’t pop around for tea as I don’t have tea-bags! I hate tea! We are good friends though!
SBs: Say "Hi!" to Chiara from the Schlagerboys... Thinking about 2006 now... Why do you think Fabrizio got only one point? We think it was that silly cummerbund he wore…
OL: Fabrizio is a great performer, an all rounder really. I think the song might not have gone down well with the general public.
SBs: Well, obviously not, given it came last...
OL: Alas these things do happen. However Fabrizio’s result is in no way a reflection of his talent.
SBs: Hmmm.... Have you seen the UK entry – fab isn’t it!
OL: I’ve heard that Scooch are representing the UK but I haven’t managed to listen to their song as yet. As soon as I do I will let you know.
SBs: Can't wait to hear what you think of the fabulous Scoochers... One final question, have you got a message for the readers of Schlagerblog?
OL: I really hope you will enjoy listening to "Vertigo" and if you really like it, please vote for it! Wouldn't it be nice to have Eurovision under the Mediterranean sun?
SBs: Yes, it would! Thank you Olivia, and good luck in Helsinki! We'll be shouting for you in the semi-final...

The award for best question goes to:
"When did you last become Indigo"?
Another Maltese classic rhyme! You'd think it wasn't their first language !!!!
I love Vertigo...i think it's one of the best entries...olivia deserves to win the eurovision song contest...even malta deserves it!!
Good Luck!!
@ malteser
mixing blue and red does result in Indigo. Maybe you fail to get the metaphoric sense of this.
oh, that red dress looks too bright though! But I like the interview. sweet girl she is!
One should be aware that Olivia's sister is a singer too and she goes by the stage name "Indigo" - so maybe that's the reason behind it.
Oh don't you love OLIVIA!! :-) She's just AB FAB!! Go Olivia! Europe loves you! xxxxx
I so agree with you. Olivia and Malta diserves to WIN! Eurovision is all of the maltese passion. They diserve it! And with Vertigo? Oh, they have a great deal of winning. We're going to hear a lot of; "And our 12 points goes to..... MALTA!!!" this year. Olivia's tallent is extrordinary, her song has such pottential... and she's also a great performer! Don't you want to feel the warm Med sunshine of the Maltese Islands over your head in the ESC of 2008?? I know I do!!! :-) I heard they might be doing it over the sea of their magnificent Grand Harbour... wouldn't that be awesome?! Good luck Malta. If not winning... Top 3 for sure. ;-) cheers!
She's seems nice. I've tipped Vertigo since the beginning, and I hope it'll do well. It's the swooshes that do it for me.
THIS IS THE BESTTT !!!

A key change is VERY important and vertigo definitely has it! I strongly believe in malta this year and i think Olivia will perform well on the night. She seems a very natural person and her voice is just fantastic. Her previous songs in the maltese final mustve been very poor if this is like the tenth time shes participating. GO MALTA!
